Ornate or simple, colorful or plain, places of worship come in all sizes and architectural styles, but one thing they have in common is that sense of peaceful solemnity inside. Wherever I am, whether visiting another state or someplace on the other side of the world, there’s a sense of familiarity when I walk into a church. I feel safe and at home.
Churches are one of my favorite subjects to photograph not only for their beauty, but also for the way they reveal a connection that crosses borders, cultures, and time.

2011 has been a wonderful year and as it comes to an end I wanted to share one of my favorite travel images from the past 12 months. I had the good fortune of traveling to Puebla for the first time and spent an afternoon in the beautiful town of Atlixco, where this shot was taken. In many ways, I hope 2012 is like this trip, full of time spent with wonderful people, new experiences, exciting adventures, and plenty of fun.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2012 full of new adventures!

When traveling, I love taking shots of street scenes, capturing views so completely different than what I see stepping out of my front door everyday. These images instantly take me back to the cities I visited, recalling the explorations, encounters, and adventures of far away places.
Wandering and getting lost in a city’s winding streets is my favorite way to get to know a place. Whether it’s a main street, where I feel I am part of the hustle and bustle of the city, or a quiet, hidden corner only the locals frequent, I never know who or what I will find.
